What happened?

Barack Obama in Minnesota – June 3, 2008

“…this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal…” Text of Obama's speech Tuesday June 3, 2008

Barack Obama in Berlin – July 24, 2008:

“As we speak, cars in Boston and factories in Beijing are melting the ice caps in the Arctic, shrinking coastlines in the Atlantic, and bringing drought to farms from Kansas to Kenya ...” Obama speech: The Independent

Comments:
MC, Kinda surprised you didn't comment on the Jaime Gorelick commentary in WaPo today about how she is disgusted with the conduct of the Bush Justice Dept.
I about got sick reading it and thinking this the same person who so compromised our national security from that very dept.

Another moment moment.

And John has a point.

MC, if this is pure snark, fine. But in the prior example, Obama was speaking imagining what other people will say in the future (maybe after he's dead) if the problems identified by him now (e.g. July 24) in fact get solved.

The paragraphs in each case make this crystal clear. Cheers.

Bruce - of course it's snark -although I don't believe anyone will seriously be looking back over our time and commenting on the problems Senator Obama identified since I can't think of one original signature thought he has introduced for our consideration. Further, although he himself may introduce it as a potential federal holiday, I doubt the day he went over the top for delegates will long be remembered as having any long-term significance.

And SD and John - Ms. Gorelick is an excellent example of why the widespread use of the phrase "public service" needs to be rethought
