CYA Leadership

For months Democrats have had the wherewithal to finally end their nominating process by simply having their superdelegates make up their mind.

For Superdelegates, 'Huge Relief' at End of Primary Season

“Several superdelegates contacted yesterday said they spent the past six months waiting, sometimes impatiently, for voters to reach a consensus before expressing opinions of their own.”

I think that is an excellent description of the problem for much of the Democratic Party’s leadership: the more inevitable Senator Obama became, the more the voters in most of the later primary states resisted him. So the elites among the Democrats are stuck between a Hillary Clinton they are convinced cannot win in November and a Barack Obama they’re (increasingly) not really sure of but still believe will do better than Sen. Clinton.

What they don’t want though is that inevitable Clinton I-told-you-so should Senator Obama lose the general election in November. Things will be so much easier if they can just lay it off as the choice of the rank-and-file.

Comments:
Remember in 2002, when the powers that be prevailed upon the boy mayor not to run so that the annointed, KKT wouldn't face serious opposition.

That didn't work out so well.

If O'Malley hadn't listened he'd be midway through his second term right now, perhaps anticipating Sen. Mikulski's retirement as a chance to move up.

Alternative theory: Obama's people won't stand out in the rain to vote when it's already mathematically dead on arrival for Senator Clinton, plus Team Obama is pulling back its well-oiled machine to conserve resources to defeat McCain.

As far as "problems" for superdelegates, these are politicians and the best of them in any party want rewards (Mercedes) without responsibility (crushing down payment and obscene monthly nut), same way you and I do (want, not "would take.") Obama just beat Hillary in two states tonight, and all of her people are bleeding out of the campaign except Mark Suicide-by-Powerpoint Penn, to whom KKT should be grateful for providing competition for the ignoble title of "most stupefyingly ineffective wastrel of natural advantage."

I stand corrected. Hillary took South Carolina. My mistake.

South Dakota. No more vodka before 9 AM.
