The Latest on the WH Press Corps...

Snow Melts at Debut 'Gaggle' – The 'Snow' being Tony Snow, the President’s new Press Secretary. This being a Dana Milbank story, though, you have to read the fine print to discern if the facts match the pun-intended headline.

They don't.

While I have no doubt that Mr. Snow would do it differently had he a do-over, nothing that I've read (or seen) comes across as a meltdown (in the modern understood sense of a person completely losing it).

The article does, however, reinforce two current truisms:

  1. The White House Press Corps prominently includes some self-indulgent individuals not yet clued into the fact that they’re NOT the story.

  2. Helen Thomas is still a jerk.

Comments:
You can say The White House Press Corps prominently includes some self-indulgent individuals not yet clued into the fact that they’re NOT the story. again.

This is nothing. Wait until they really tee off on Tony. He is aggressively calling them on their bias and errors and they won't stand for that for long. But Tony's tough -- he can take it, and he's faced far worse than the pampered partisans of the White House press corps.

I look forward to watching his press conferences because I think his calm demeanor, good humor and inherent politeness will be the perfect foil for this Press Corps. ..and it will be obvious to anyone watching. This will be a real quandry for the Press Corps - getting on TV will run the risk of making Tony Snow look good...
